Spanish to English: Mas Alla del Yo / Beyond the Self General field: Science Detailed field: Psychology
Translation - English Therefore, we can say that the construction of the personality is at the service of our survival, it was an act of subcortical intelligence; it behaves in the way we had to adapt to survive, because we needed to feel loved and accepted. When love, acceptance and respect are threatened, the human being will hypertrophy aspects of the self (those which are accepted and reinforced when they show themselves to the world), and minimize other aspects of the self (those which perceive themselves to be rejected by others). Life is the stage on which we can develop and mature the seed of what we already are in an innate and natural way, in our potential state. We are all endowed with a dignified, worthy and kind human nature. Sometimes our parents, but also the educators, precepts and values of our culture, have led us to overdevelop aspects of the self oriented to reach achievements, academic successes, to display particular social mannerisms, to be good and hospitable with others, to be perfectionists, strong or hard, and to spurn the most sensitive aspects, such as vulnerability, fear, sadness, and shame. All these aspects are manifestations of our different systems for managing life, all are aspects of ourselves, but when carrying the burdens imposed through failed relationships with others, they become more or less maladaptive or rigid. Healing involves helping these systems to liberate those imposed burdens so as to make available the inherent resources that each of the systems contains for the management of our lives: to know how to behave socially in relationships, to know how to take care of ourselves and others, to know how to earn a living, to know love and feel bonded, to know how to protect and defend ourselves, how to play and enjoy, etc.
Spanish to English: Dimensiones de género del trabajo turístico / Gender dimensions in tourism work General field: Social Sciences Detailed field: International Org/Dev/Coop
Translation - English This perspective assumes the need to denounce the negative impacts that tourism entails, or can entail, in host societies and the environment, and to be involved in the accompaniment of and solidarity with the affected groups. Furthermore, it considers the need to establish tourism development models that are both sustainable and specific for each destination area. Thirdly, it values and demands the responsibility of all agents that participate in the tourism process (travellers, hosts, tour operators and public institutions) when favouring sustainable tourism models, emphasizing desirable priority benefits for the host communities. This conception takes as its first concern the construction of a collective action that responds to the multiple negative impacts inherent in dominant tourism developments, and contributes to the development of more sustainable, inclusive and equitable models of tourism.
These concepts, both decent work and responsible tourism, allow for their own development with a specific focus on gender relations, which has been insufficiently addressed until now. The purpose of this report, therefore, is to enhance the analysis of tourism work with a gender approach. Thus, we consider the most appropriate method for understanding this type of labour activity, from a standpoint built on the ideals of decent work and responsible tourism, is to incorporate the full potential of the gender perspective in its analysis.
Spanish to English: El Gemelo Solitario / The Lone Twin General field: Science Detailed field: Psychology
Translation - English Twins have always been fascinating, as much to the people around them as to science and society at large, this is evident through their presence in stories and myths. Throughout the last century specific research was carried out on the behaviour and the bond between live twins. Today four dimensional ultrasound techniques open a window into that first stage of life, revealing a great deal of behaviour that transpires between twins during pregnancy. Also, with the help of exercises applied in a therapeutic context to induce a person to enter regressive states, it is possible to revisit very early memories of life, including pregnancy and childbirth itself. This allows us to have a better understanding of the experience of siblings during a multiple pregnancy and the bond between them.
The connection between twins is the closest relationship we know as humans. Amongst many living twins this is an everyday experience, the sensation of a special bond with each other and the need to maintain contact in order to feel close. This relationship stems from the time shared during pregnancy. While for the vast majority of human life the primary relationship is with the mother, for twins, the situation is different. Living together in the womb they develop an extremely close relationship with each other.

Years of experience: 14. Registered at ProZ.com: Aug 2015.
My original Spanish degree had several modules focused on Translation and Interpretation. Having lived and worked in Spain and Mexico for over 12 years I have exponentially increased my understanding of spoken and written Spanish. I produced Es>En and En>Es translations for most of this time alongside my usual work. I also wrote articles directly into Spanish for a speciality magazine and taught Shiatsu to students directly in Spanish.
Teaching English as a foreign language for over a decade has afforded me an expert understanding of English grammar. But this has not been my only field of interest, as I also studied and worked with Traditional Chinese medicine practices, and gained a broad understanding of its language and philosophy in both Spanish and English.
I am now focusing on translation full time, but also engage in academic research. My academic and professional life is focused on Education and International Development, giving me a deep knowledge on the complex terminology of this field. I have also translated psychotherapy books, which resonates with my personal interests and has been fascinating work.
