I have been studying German since I was 16 years old, when it was my favourite subject at school.
I graduated with a first in German and Linguistics from the University of York in 2014.
I have spent approximately 20 years of my life in the UK and 10 years in Germany. I speak and write German at a near-native level and have passed the DSH 3 exam (corresponding to C2 level).
My career in translation began in 2012 when I was an intern in the translation department of DHL at their headquarters in Bonn, Germany. I have since acquired 8 years' experience translating on a freelance basis, and have translated close to 2,000,000 words.
I am 30 years old and always stay up to date with contemporary English and German.
I have always been curious since a young age, and like to read widely in both English and German about topics such as politics, current affairs, history, physics, linguistics, computer science, psychology and geography.
My areas of expertise in translation include marketing, product localisation, logistics and global supply chains, manufacturing, and internet & tech.
I have localised a number of German products for British, American and international markets, including the accompanying websites, marketing copy and FAQs.
I also have a passion for more creative translations; I won an award for literary translation from the DAAD and have translated and tested a series of murder mystery games for the UK market, which was great fun.
I like to keep a flexible work schedule; I'm available during normal business hours as well as on evenings and weekends, for which I charge no extra cost. I translate using SDL Trados 2021 and I'm an advanced user of Microsoft Office and proficient with Adobe design software.
I like to maintain a friendly yet professional working relationship, adapting to each individual client to make sure we are on the same page, and I am able to deliver a translation that meets their precise specification and deadline.
