Bio

Greetings! It's a pleasure having you here.

My Name is Nicolás Castrilli.

I offer Professional Language and English/Portuguese to Spanish translation services since 201.

My specializations are Social and Agricultural Sciences.
I also work with, and have great interest in Computer Sciences, Ethnic Studies, Permaculture and Environmental-related texts, and have experience translating in a wide variety of fields.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A bit of my history as a translator...

I started translating in 2013 as a self-taught volunteer translator, developing my skills through online study and mentorship. Soon after, some friends and I founded Colectivo Apócrifo, a translation cooperative created to help us translate books we wanted to publish in our independent editorial, and we also started to offer translation services for small authors and other editorials. Since then, a big part of my work has been connected to Social Movements, non-profits and other community organizations.
In 2015, I started working with various agencies in a wide variety of projects, from Psychology essays to appliance manuals to TV-series subtitles, to name just a few. Once I've got my first direct clients as a freelancer, I focused mainly on Social Sciences, Anthropology and Environmentalism, which are my top areas of personal interest and study.

Since last year, I include Agriculture as a specialization, as I'm studying Agroecology and Agricultural Science in Universidad de Rio Negro, plus more than six years of practicing, studying and translating in such areas.

In 2022, a colleague and I founded Rizoma Traducciones, a translation cooperative providing professional language services in English, Portuguese and Spanish, specialized in Ethnic Studies, and Social and Agricultural Sciences. We are proud to be doing what we love while connecting people and projects that are contributing to make the world an abundant, more just place for all.

I live in and work from El Bolsón, Rio Negro in the Argentinian Patagonia, where I also study, and have recently started a regenerative horticulture project called Colectivo URTICA.
Furthermore, I have lived in Brazil for 6 years, working in the fields of Permaculture and Eco-Building, next to autonomous Agroecology groups and Indigenous Communities.

In addition to my freelance and agriculture jobs, I also work as a computer technician, providing IT support and PC and camera repair services since 2007. There are no computer related problem I cannot solve. So that's another field I feel absolutely confident in.

All these areas I specialize in, are part of my everyday life, and I'm continuously learning and expanding my knowledge on them, as I study, work and engage in activism inside and around those universes. I believe there is no better and efficient way to do a quality translation about any specific topic but to be passionate about it, to breathe it every single day and being capable to understand and explain its complex matters in a natural, simple way.

What can I offer:

    • an almost obsessive attention to detail
    • superb talent for writing in Spanish
    • great research skills
    • Incredible amounts of curiosity and eagerness to learn
    • excellent communication faculties
    • constant improvement on my fields of expertise through everyday study, research and practice
    • a wide range of interests, skills and knowledge, contributing to a broader general knowledge in all sort of fields
    • a serious commitment to responsibility, quality and on-time delivery

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is a selection of the translation projects I feel prouder of:

Portuguese to Spanish:

    • Translation of the book "Agricultura Sintrópica, según Ernst Gotsch", an agroforestry manual by CEPEAS (Centro de Pesquisa em Agricultura Sintrópica)
    • Translation of the book "Redes de Cuidado: Revoluciones invisibles por una vida vivible", a militant analysis on women, indigenous and black communities mutual-aid networks in Brazil, by Coletivo Etinerâncias
    • Translated subtitles for "Campo grande é o Ceu". A Brazilian documentary film about Quilombola communities and their fight to preserve their ancestral traditions.

English to Spanish:

    • Translation of the book "500 years of Indigenous Resistance", by Gord Hill, a history of the colonization of North America through the eyes of an Indigenous warrior and activist.
    • Translation of the essay *"We are all very anxious", by anonymous author. A sociopolitical analysis on the relation between capitalism and anxiety.
    • Volunteer translations for activists groups, non-profits and community organizations in the USA and Europe, as well as Brazil and Argentina

If you are interested in my services, contact me. Let's discuss how we can help each other ;)
I'm looking forward to it.

Thank you very much for your consideration.
