Professional practices Joshua Parker endorses's Professional Guidelines.

Born to an English-speaking family in the UK, I spent my entire adolescence in France, where I earned a literary baccalauréat and first developed a keen interest in literature, translation, and the intricacies of language in general.

An unexpected turn of events and set of circumstances led to me moving to Mexico to pursue a BA in Translation (EN<> ES) at the age of 19 - naively believing I would return to Europe afterwards.

Instead, I stayed in Mexico - nestled in the northwestern corner, close to the U.S. border - and followed my long-standing ambition to work in languages. Initially, during my degree and a couple of years thereafter, I taught French at a local university, but continued to translate and completed an MA in Specialized Translation (EN/FR>ES) from Spain (online) before deciding to devote myself full-time to translation.

My unusual background and sustained immersion with my three languages, coupled with meticulous attention to detail and an unwavering commitment to upholding standards of excellence in the industry, have positioned me as the translator of choice for a number of direct clients and outsourcers across Mexico, the U.S., and further afield.

The bulk of my experience is in the legal/financial, education or environmental fields - although my work has ranged from translating pilot logbooks to labels for beauty products and promotional material for a personal lubricant!

I have translated countless contracts, notarial records, statutes, affidavits, police & tax records, audits, and other legal and financial documentation, mostly from Mexico and the U.S., but also France, Spain, Argentina, El Salvador, and elsewhere.

I also collaborate regularly with independent researchers and academic journals. I have a long-standing working relationship with the REDIE educational journal, translating (ES>EN) academic papers for publication online, and recently translated a series of papers on Mexico-U.S. border arts & culture integration for publication by Springer. I also offer proofreading services in English for academic work.

Thirdly, I have considerable experience working with and for international organizations and local and international NGOs, as direct or end-clients, translating reports, articles, and internal documentation, mainly on environmental/conservation issues, human rights, indigenous peoples, etc.

I am also a conference interpreter and have worked mostly at binational U.S./Mexican conventions and events promoting cooperation on the border.

Today, I mostly translate into English (US and UK), but still work into Spanish (and rarely French), mostly for a few long-term clients and outsourcers.

Past assignments include work for UNESCO, the French embassy in Mexico, the Montreal Black Film Festival, the National Anthropology and History Institute (INAH), the Vitala Group (London), Pietro Fiorentini de México, Pronatura, Hutchinson Seal de México, the Center for Scientific Research and Further Education in Ensenada (CICESE), and the Colegio de la Frontera Norte (Colef).

I have also worked extensively for the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC), where I remain a member of faculty in the BA in Translation.
