English to Chinese: The Garden 花园 General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Tourism & Travel
Source text - English The Garden
The Garden is characterized by a unique feature: it’s a garden within a garden. Beyond its botanical value, the garden is also shaped through the story of the Dream of the Red Chamber. The irregular shape is meant not to distribute plants in a schematic way, but rather to give an insight into the value of plats within the story, which is also a metaphor for our lives. The Garden is placed in the Westernmost side of the Sensory Experience Field on the slight slope toward the lake. It is divided into smaller plots through three curved walkways and minor stone walls. The walkways are flanked by metal plates fixed into the ground, the stone walls are made of metal cages filled up with white or black stones. A small L-shaped stream crosses through the middle of the Garden reminding us of the continuous life dynamism in all living beings. The scene of dropping petals into the flowing water can be experience along the stream. Tall trees are distributed along the Northern and Southern sides of the Garden, while small walls made of parallelepipeds are located on the Eastern and Western sides with protecting hedges towards the lake, in line with the biodynamic principles. At the entrance points, sheets with different quotations from the Dream of the Red Chamber can be picked up and read aloud freely by visitors. Using the human voice also highlights the value of plants as living beings.
Many of the stories within the book deal with trees, flowers, colours and scents. The plants’
role within the Sensory Experience Field is therefore not confined to their sensory value, but is
more deeply integrated into the general mission of the whole project: taking care and revitalizing the dream, the five elements and the twelve senses as key-elements of our life.
Translation - Chinese
