I am a teacher of Business English (B1, B2) and Localization (B2) at a higher education institution in Slovenia. Being a teacher, I learn all the time. First, I had to unlearn the old rules imposed on me by my teachers, then I had to learn new ones, which required questioning old assumptions, challenging old paradigms, and relearning what is relevant in my job, my career and my life. I have no special talents, but I try to be curious. I believe that having a hungry mind is a good thing, which is too often lost in the process of formal education, so I try to retain student's inquisitive and open minds, sometimes with some success. I find challenging work essential to deep and meaningful learning. Above all, I hate regurgitating and rote-learning and think that teachers should mainly try to foster students' love of learning. |
