English to Spanish: "How to achieve acceptance. The sources of consensus in natural parks." General field: Social Sciences Detailed field: Government / Politics
Source text - English Public consent to nature parks remains problematic. Consent is based on the principles of order: "authority", "exchange" and "integration", best identified by the means through which compliance is achieved, respectively "coercion", "remuneration" and "persuasion". These order principles are not mutually exclusive and consent can be achieved from a combination of all three.
In Europe, parks have mainly been established through the order principle of "authority". Governments created parks with little consideration for the local population, sometimes legitimising their status by reference to historical, scenic or ecological values thereby partially invoking the "integration" principle. However, the rural community often had little appreciation of these values and the park was seen as another piece of imposed legislation. More recently, the relationship has evolved as the political power of local communities has increased. It is now clear that effective nature protection can only be achieved with the total support of the local population.

Source text - English A line of wooden stakes marks where young black pepper plants are growing. The spaces between the rows of black pepper plants are alternately planted with banana and cacao (from which chocolate is made). Cacao plantations need about 40% shade, so banana is the ideal neighbour. It grows faster than cacao and provides it with protecion from direct sun, heavy rain and strong winds.
English to Spanish: "In a fair election, an unlikely challenger could win Yugoslavia's presidential election." General field: Social Sciences Detailed field: Government / Politics
Source text - English So far, he's ahead. A poll published last week showed that Kostunica, who is supported by a coalition of 18 opposition parties, would receive 43 percent of the votes in the first round, in which five candidates are running. Milosevic would get only 21 percent. The same poll predicted that in a runoff on Oct. 8 between the two leaders, Kostunica would get 52 percent of the votes, while Milosevic would receive only 26 percent. If he loses the federal election, Milosevic will still control the presidency of Serbia, which is held by one of his cronies and is actually more powerful than the Yugoslav presidency. But the invincibility of Milosevic's one-man rule would be shattered, threatening his hold on the Serbian presidency in an election two years from now.
Translation - Spanish Hasta ahora, Kostunica lleva la delantera.
English to Spanish: F3’s shrimp winner (interview) General field: Science Detailed field: Fisheries
Source text - English One advantage of feeding shrimp is that the composition of its tail is mostly protein and water, and proteins are all the same regardless of the source. On the other hand, the fat concentration of shrimp tail is so low that its source does not affect palatability. However, we must work on the bioavailability of plant protein sources. Shrimp gut passage is so short that any anti-nutritional factors can affect the digestibility and hence growth rate. The use of fermented proteins, probiotics and phytobiotics can reduce this problem.
