Source text - English Les tiges et les fils des Equivalences, tirés à la verticale, participent d’un système reliant un poids et son contrepoids par l’intermédiaire d’une poulie. Leur mécanisme est simple, mais il permet que chacune des deux parties reliées puisse, quelle que soit sa position à la verticale, se stabiliser avec l’autre. Le suspens est donc assuré en permanence entre les éléments reliés.
Il faut souligner trois qualités de ces équivalences pour comprendre ce qu’elles mettent jeu. D’une part, sur un plan strictement physique, leur faculté de maintenir en suspens et en toute position le poids et le contrepoids : elle est due à un rapport précis où le contrepoids est deux fois et demie plus lourd que le poids. L’équivalence se joue donc sans l’égalité : elle se distingue de l’équilibre et se sépare ainsi de son principe premier.
Ce qui est mis en équivalence sont des objets industriels que l’on peut répartir en deux ensembles : des pièces mécaniques, détachées des structures auxquelles elles appartiennent (fragments de moteurs, en majorité), et des contenants (pots et bouteilles) que l’usage peut, le cas échéant, transformer en appareils de mesures. Ces objets industriels appartiennent encore à un ensemble, qui les réunit sur un autre plan : ils sont usagés, voire obsolètes, et ne disposent plus ainsi de leurs fonctions premières. Ils ne possèdent plus de valeurs, qu’elle soit marchande ou d’usage, pour reprendre les distinctions classiques opérées par l’économie.
Equivalence sans égalité, équivalence sans valeur… Que proposent donc ces Equivalences ? Un troisième point peut apporter des éléments de réponse à cette question, car tous les objets composant les poids et les contrepoids ont été transformés : ils sont en bronze et non plus en aluminium, en plastique ou en fer. Cette transformation matérielle s’accompagne d’un changement de statut, pour ces objets, comme contrefaçons.
C’est bien une fois défait des critères physiques, économiques et statutaires nécessaires à l’établissement de la valeur que tout peut s’équivaloir à nouveaux frais. C’est ainsi que le domaine de l’équivalence s’ouvre à ce qui n’a plus de valeur ou n’en a pas encore, et trouve, dans ces Équivalences, les instruments de mesure de ses limites.
Translation - French The vertically hanging Equivalences strings and stalks form a system connecting a weight and its counterweight through the strength of a pulley. The mechanism is simple, allowing each of the parts to counterbalance each other, regardless of its vertical position. The suspension is thus constantly assured between the linked elements.
The attributes of our equivalences must be emphasized to understand what is put into play.
On one hand, on a strictly physical plane, there is their capacity to maintain the balance, in any position the weight and counterweight might take. This is due to the precise weight ratio between the two parts, the counterweight being two times and a half heavier than its counterpart.
The equivalence is hence played out without equality: it distinguishes itself from a balancing act and distances itself from its prime principle.
Two classes of objects are correlated here: mechanical pieces, detached from their original structures (mostly engine fragments) and various vessels (such as bottles and jars) that can eventually serve as measurement apparatus. These industrial objects still belong to an ensemble, that links them together on a different level: they are used, on their way to obsolescence, and have long lost their initial purpose. They have effectively lost any kind of value, be it practical or monetary, to paraphrase the traditional economical distinctions.
Equivalence without equality, equivalence without value...what do these equivalences offer? A third perspective can provide us with a partial answer. Since all the counterbalanced objects, originally made of plastic, iron or aluminum have been turned into bronze, they concurrently achieve a new counterfeit status, the consequence of an inanimate object disguising itself as another.
It is only once freed from the necessary physical, economical and classificatory criteria that new values can be established. This is how the equivalence field opens up, to what lost its value or to what hasn't found any worth yet, and finds, in these Equivalences, the measuring instruments of its own limits.

Born in Iran and grew up in Rome, but in a French public school, I was lucky enough to become effectively trilingual. As it is often the case with migrant families, me and my sister had to teach the language to our parents, familiarizing me with linguistic mechanisms at a very early age.
After financing my Modern Litterature studies in the Sorbonne with private Italian classes, I started writing and adapting plays for the SalaUno in Rome, while translating for the dubbing and translating studio Fonoroma, and editing and summarising for numerous art galleries.
I relocated in Berlin in 2011, and have been give language classes to refugees for a humanitarian organization since 2015.
