I am a native English speaker, fluent in Russian, with an MA in Translation (Russian) from Columbia University. I have worked as a translator and an interpreter (Russian/English) for over two decades. Assignments have included Soviet cosmonauts, US corporations, law firms, biotech firms, individuals seeking asylum and refugee status, Olympic athletes, and media and publishing firms.

I was among the first wave of Americans able to live and work in the Soviet Union, and used my extensive in-country experience to gain an exceptional level of cultural understanding, fluency in Russian, and exposure to a variety of Russian government and commercial entities as a translator. I attended two of Russia's top programs for preparing translators, and completed a master's degree program--specifically in Russian Translation--at Columbia University and have been a practicing translator ever since, working for many years in Moscow and New York, and more recently from my hometown, Minneapolis.

Translation was also a segue for me into publishing, and my publishing career has been directly connected to Russia for most of the past two decades. In that work, I am responsible for negotiating and writing contracts in Russian and English with entities such as the Russian National Library, the top social science publishers, the State Archive Service of the Russian Federation, Moscow State University, the major newspaper publishers, and a variety of private firms in multiple sectors. My work also heavily overlaps with IT, and I have overseen teams of technical employees in Russia, including software developers, and frequently conduct all manner of business correspondence, personnel management, etc. in Russian.
