Bio

My name is Yavuz Selim Altındal and I am a 29 year old translator/editor and currently a student in a BA program of Business and Engineering. I have been doing translation and editing since the beginning of 2013; started in one of the best translation offices (Referans Translation Services) in Istanbul and after successfully working on projects from respected customers such as IKEA, Shell, FC Barcelona and so forth as a translator for 4 months my directors assigned me to editing jobs, and 6 months after I started to work as a junior translator, I have become an editor.

After completing a successful year I decided to quit my job in the above mentioned office and I have started to work for a publishing house (Litera Publishing) which produce and publish respected volumes in several fields and I began to translate academical volumes in the field of psychotherapy; after delivering my second book project I was assigned as the editor of this field at the age of 25.

Ever since I have  translated my own projects; kept track of other translators who translate various psychotherapy publishings; reviewed old publishings for reprint; contacted with foreign publishers; folllowed and assisted the royalty and copyright contract processes; assisted advertising works such as fairs and exhibitions; assigned and edited book projects in the field of psychotherapy and also assisted the chief editor of political philosophy publishings. Since I have moved to Germany for university studies I have given over my editorial tasks and kept only to translating volumes from psychotherapy and philosophy fields.

And I have been working for an online magazine called MAVIBLAU.com voluntary for almost three years. I have been translating and editing articles on culture, art and personal experiences from German to Turkish. I have learned to use the wordpress platform and gained experience of online editing mostly during my works in this online magazine.

Throughout this journey I have managed to gather and develop outstanding skills for editorial services such as quickly and meticulously reviewing enormous texts for orthographical and semantic errors; doing a thorough consistency control and ensuring consistency; finding out translation failures sometimes (even only by reading the translated text); I have excellent level of knowledge/practice of Turkish and English dictation/orthography and grammar, and I am very good at German grammar and orthography; beside the formal/taught writing rules, I have my own practice of orthography based on the mental processes of general readers. I have managed to attain this improvement because I love my job: I love to deal with notions and writings; I love to learn as I do my job; I love to bring perfection to my work almost at an OCD level, therefore I love to be an editor/translator.
