English to Russian: Abstract of Neurological Review Paper General field: Science Detailed field: Medical (general)
Source text - English Ageing is associated with changes in the nervous system with consequent alterations in some neurological examination findings: understanding what is 'normal' at different ages is essential when evaluating patients. In seminal papers published in 1931, Dr MacDonald Critchley summarised his observations and the prevailing evidence on the effects of ageing on, among others, sensation, reflexes, ocular function, olfaction, movement and cognition. In this review, these observations are re-evaluated in light of contemporary evidence. Factors influencing the measurement and interpretation of these clinical findings are then discussed, including reproducibility, the influence of comorbidities, secular trends, how 'normality' should best be defined, the problems of extrapolating group data to individuals and the influence of presymptomatic neurodegenerative disease states. The case is made that context is critical, and that combining life course data with detailed clinical and biomarker phenotyping is required to understand the determinants of normal neurological function associated with ageing.
Spanish to English: Scientific Abstract from Autism Review Paper General field: Science Detailed field: Medical (general)
Translation - English We reviewed all works on autism that were published by Spanish authors in journals until 2007, in order to analyze the evolution of studies, journals and co-authorship networks in this field. In total, 567 works were analyzed. There was a progressive increase in the total number of articles published and researchers working in collaboration, especially in the last ten years, as well as a remarkable coincidence between the general approach of the works and the recommendations published in the Anglo-Saxon field on the research and treatment of autism in that period. We also identified weaknesses, such as the low proportion of empirical and funded works, the low impact of the journals and the lack of continuity of the authors, which were also detected in other areas of research. We concluded that the psychological and biomedical studies of autism in Spain are currently expanding, but that important changes would be required in the way authors develop and communicate their work and a greater involvement of institutions (especially, universities and parent associations). Finally, some suggestions are suggested to improve the quality and visibility of future studies and their real world usefulness for the affected people.

Experience
Years of experience: 20. Registered at ProZ.com: Jun 2019.
I was born in Moscow, Russia, and I moved to the U.S. at age 7, in 2003.
I thus developed a completely bilingual fluency in both Russian and English, with no accent in either language, and complete proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing. With this, I've been able to translate all kinds of materials -- ranging from books to resumes to research papers -- throughout my life so far, as well as having served as an interpreter.
In 2007, I started learning Spanish and, a couple of years later, began translating between English and Spanish.
Now, I feel comfortable enough in all 3 languages to work with any language pair, and would be thrilled to help your projects in nearly any sector.
At this point, I've gained experience far outside of my areas of study, which have been primarily the sciences and publishing/writing.
I graduated from Columbia University, with a degree in Neuroscience. I worked in neuroscience research and in medicine for over 5 years.
I also worked for a New York book publisher for 3 years, as an Assistant Editor and Writer.
Please share your primary goals with me, and I'll help you accomplish them faster than you planned.
