Bio
My name is Giulia Pasero, I’m a freelance translator and interpreter, English and Russian are my specialization languages. I’ve got a bachelor’s and a master's degree in Translation and Interpreting (University of Genoa) and I graduated with full marks and honours. During my five-year university course, I have acquired knowledge in legal and economic translation from and into both languages, in consecutive and liaison interpreting (for both English and Russian) and simultaneous (just for English). I would like to draw your attention to the fact that, even if I’m just at the beginning of my career, I have already gained considerable expertise in this field, a sign of which is the very last interpreting task I was involved in, which started at the end of August and ended in November 2019: I was working as a freelance interpreter from English into Italian (and vice versa) for Arcelormittal Italia, in the plants of Genoa and Novi Ligure. Thanks to this job I have developed gained deep knowledge of the iron and steel industry, metallurgy and manufacturing in general. As far as interpreting is concerned, within the framework of my interpreting course, I had the chance to practice my skills in simultaneous interpreting (from and into English) during various medical conferences in the so-called “dummy booth experience”. I also worked as an interpreter from Italian into Russian during a wedding celebration, which proves that my skills are not restricted to specific technical fields, but can be applied to many different contexts.
From the point of view of translation, as I already mentioned, the focus of my Master’s Degree was mainly on economical and legal translation from and into both languages. I have been working as a freelance translator since November 2019 and, so far, I have been involved in a big translation project of technical procedures for ship management, in the HSE field. Besides this, I would like to highlight my internship for the Local Health Authority within the framework of a European project on substance use prevention, during which I had the possibility to translate different kinds of documents from English into Italian and vice versa. I also worked for almost a year as an occasional translator for Modus Traduzioni, dealing with technical and legal translations from English into Italian and vice versa, and also from Russian. I know how to use different CAT tools, especially Trados (I have access to SDL Trados Studio 2011), but also Omega T, Smartcat, LFaligner and some others.
