Who am I?
I am a translator, interpreter and teacher with over 20 years professional experience.
I have got two Spanish Licenciaturas (Master´s degrees under Directive 2005/36/EC) from the Spanish University of Salamanca, in Translation and Interpreting (1999) and in Law (2005). I also possess a Master´s degree in Conference Interpreting from the Spanish University of La Laguna (2004) and two further postgraduate degrees I obtained in 2011 and 2015, in Legal Language and Teaching.
I started my professional career in 1997 and since then I have lived in five different countries (UK, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg and Spain) and I have worked for a number of companies and institutions, mainly as a translator, as a teacher and as a lawyer. My first accomplishment was translating into Spanish all screens and applications of an accounting software called APTOS (www.aptos.co.uk), a huge two-year task. As an interpreter, I had the chance to train in the booths of the European Commission and the European Parliament.
Between 2006 and 2008 I worked as a lawyer for the prestigious Law Firm Garrigues in Spain. I then went back to translating and I gained a position as a Lecturer for ULPGC University (Las Palmas, Spain) until 2010, when I became a civil servant. I worked for the Regional Government of the Canary Islands until 2015 and then I moved to Belgium, where I took up different commercial and clerical jobs while I learnt French and Dutch. For the last few months I have been working on several teaching and translation projects, with a specialization in the legal field.
I have worked for international institutions such as The World Bank Group and the European Court of Justice. Through different translation agencies and direct customers I have translated all sorts of legal texts, mainly judgments, orders, preliminary questions, contracts, agreements and deeds.
I am still a registered lawyer and I occasionaly teach and translate.
Who was El Cid Campeador?
El Cid Campeador (The Lord Champion), whose real name was Rodrigo (or Ruy) Diaz de Vivar, was a great popular hero of 11th-century Spain. If you are interested in his exploits please click here: El Cid in Wikipedia
I joined Proz more than fifteen years ago with this username and I quickly gained a reputation by helping my peer translators in the Kudoz section. Some of the connections I did back then have became my dearest friends and collaborators.
