I have a BA in Oriental Studies (Chinese) from the University of Oxford, and have been studying Mandarin for almost seven years. I can read simplified and traditional Chinese characters, and recently started doing freelance translations on other websites in Traditional Chinese (Taiwan) - English. From my degree, I have a basic knowledge of Classical Chinese, as well as Chinese history and culture. Since graduating I have maintained my Chinese by consuming as much Chinese media as possible, through listening to music and podcasts, to watching the news, reality and entertainment shows, and dramas. This has given me a rounded knowledge of different tones of speech, idioms, slang, and other cultural references. I am still a newcomer to the professional translation world and have never used any CAT tools or other software, and I do not have any other translation qualifications or certifications beyond my degree. However, I have had very good feedback from my previous customers, and I am always open to learning to use new tools and software.
I am currently studying full-time for Masters degree in Chinese to English translation until September 2021.
