English to Spanish: PhD Thesis Article General field: Science Detailed field: Mathematics & Statistics
Translation - Spanish Summary: The document has as purpose to contribute on the achievements about the characterization of the variational thinking that emerges in the problem resolution process that involves diophantic linear equations in the form 𝑎𝑥+𝑏𝑦=𝑐 in a group of 24 students that whom are trained to become mathematics teachers with a qualitative approach from the substantiated theory. The methodologic strategy was composed of three interventions and three codification cycles and data analysis characterized by the constant method of comparison which led to the sampling and theoretical saturation. The findings have shown a variational way of thinking from the participants when as of the substitutions and combinations of integers in the equation they established nexus and relations that carry them to generalizing, formalizing and proving. Therefore, when the students interpret the infinite solutions they think in how to move from the duet of integers (𝑥𝑖,𝑦𝑖) as a particular solution and another solution (𝑥𝑖+1,𝑦𝑖+1) in a simultaneous way when 𝑡∈ℤ changes to 𝑡±1. As a result, it was characterized the variational thinking as a problem resolution process composed by the sub-processes: to transform, to formalize, to generalize and to prove variationally. The results imply that it is possible to keep moving forward in characterizing the variational thinking from these contexts.
