Tea is, without a doubt the most consumed beverage in the world, and billions of people drink it as a part of their daily routine. However, this much-loved caffeinated drink can also leave stubborn stains on our kitchenware, furniture, and clothes.
Teas contain a special chemical known as tannins, which make its stains on upholstery, china, and fabric difficult to remove. You need a strong detergent, an acidic agent, or an abrasive substance to remove the stain comprehensively.
In this article, we will explain various techniques for removing tea stains on surfaces.
How to Remove Tea Stains from Kitchenware
Tea stains on kitchenware are perhaps the easiest to remove. First, you need to cut a large piece of lemon and sprinkle salt on the outer edges of the lemon. The lemon juice is acidic in nature, whereas the salt has an abrasive nature that can remove the tea stains effectively.
However, it’s possible that the tea stain has been left to dry for too long. In that case, you need a mixture of baking soda to remove the tea stain. To make this paste, you would need to mix baking soda powder with some water.
After mixing the paste thoroughly, you can apply the paste to the stained area. The paste has to be thick so you can apply it with the help of a paper towel or cloth. Rub the stain with some pressure until the stain vanishes and then rinse it thoroughly with water.
How to Remove Tea Stains from Fabric
Even if your garment says that the clothes need to be dry-washed, it is never a good idea to dry-wash a tea or coffee stain. Dry-washing a fabric will make the stain permanent and extremely difficult to remove.
You should try to act as soon as possible when the spill occurs. First, try to absorb excess tea with the help of a clean, dry cloth. After that, gather cold water in a dish and soak the garment in the water for at least 30 minutes. If the stain on the garment is too big, you can even opt to put the garment inside the cold water overnight.
However, if that doesn’t work, you can try another solution of cold water, dishwashing detergent, and white vinegar. The solution should have at least one liter of water along with half a teaspoon of dishwashing detergent and a tablespoon of white vinegar.
Soak the affected area in the solution for approximately fifteen minutes. After that, take the dress out and rinse it with cold water. If the stain persists, use a sponge and blot it out with alcohol until it has been removed. After that, wash the dress normally as you would.
However, you should bear in mind that tea stains can be extremely stubborn, and you may have to repeat these steps to remove the stain completely. Please remember to perform a patch test on the fabric before applying fully.
Tea stains are not easy to remove, but you can remove them easily if you follow the techniques listed above.
