I am a freelance English into Arabic translator with an MA in
Translation studies from Queen’s University Belfast and a level 4 course in
community interpreting, completed in May 2020.
Having lived in Northern Ireland for 18 years, along with my
work in interpreting and sight translation for the Arabic speaking community
and the service providers, I have gained in-depth knowledge and first-hand
linguistic experience in different fields and settings, such as health,
immigration, policing, highway code, law and justice, banking, consumerism,
housing, social welfare, counselling, training, community relations and
education.
The recent
MA in translation studies has helped develop my knowledge in translation
theories and translation techniques, through the application of theory to real-life
translation tasks. Whereas the level 4 course in community interpreting has
provided me with the opportunity to enhance my communication and note-taking skills,
in addition to further practising different interpreting techniques, such as
consecutive and simultaneous interpreting, in different settings and scenarios.
Having completed an MBA in 2017 from Ulster University, in
addition to owning a small business in Northern Ireland from 2010 to 2020, not
only have allowed me to develop project and business management skills but also
gain in-depth knowledge in the business-related language, including business
management, business legislations, business agreements, employment law,
accounting and finance, marketing, e-commerce, customer service, business
strategy and corporate social responsibility.
My experience in translation includes translating literary texts,
medical texts, legal texts, and business texts including marketing and business
analysis. Furthermore, I have been involved in translating questionnaires and
surveys for academic and marketing purposes, in addition to translating journal
articles and personal blogs. I have also been involved in translating and
subtitling videos containing promotional content, including videos related to
the internationalisation of higher education.
I am also trained on the use of CAT tools, such as Memsource,
and I can perform subtitling using the Aegisub subtitle editing app too.
