HISTORY
The origins of the Duomo date back to the first centuries of Christianity.
The first Christian worship place in Este was dedicated to Saint Tecla between the end of the IVth and the Vth century. Saint Tecla , virgin and martyr, was born in Iconio in Asia Minor, and Saint Paul’s disciple.
Instead, there is little legendary and late news about a Langobard-Carolingian building (VI-IX century)
1117
In some documents of the X-XI century there is news about the existence of a Baptistery Church, held by a chapter of canons with an archpriest in command of.
After an earthquake happened on 3rd January, the existing Church was rebuilt by Enrico il Nero, duke of Baviera, until it became a five-nave Romanic building in 1489.
From 1583 to 1592, the archpriest Francesco Antonio Fracanzani (1540-1610) changed the orientation of the building, rebuilding the façade towards East, towards the new city centre.
The works were carried out in stones and marbles following the architect Vincenzo Scamozzi’s draft (1552-1616).
1688
An earthquake occured on 15th April 1688 put the Medieval construction at risk. The superior abbot Marco Marchetti (1638-1708) and the canons of the Duomo decided to rebuild it completely, in compliance with the Magnifica Comunità, its citizens and the Mercanti di Este
ARCHITECT ANTONIO GASPARI
The architect Antonio Gaspari (1656-1723) was born and lived in Venice where he collaborated on the refinement works of the Basilica della Salute.
Gaspari stayed in Este 18 years (1688-1705) for realising the Duomo, building the Chiesa della Salute and Palazzo Ca’Pesaro, today headquarters of the Istituto Salesiano Manfredini.
In Este Gaspari could realize in freedom his ideas to create his masterpiece, the Duomo of Saint Tecla, a holy building unique in its genre.

STORIA
Le origini di quello che oggi è il Duomo di Santa Tecla risalgono ai primi secoli del cristianesimo.
Il primo luogo di culto cristiano in Este fu dedicato tra la fine del IV e il VI secolo, a Santa Tecla vergine e martire, nativa di Iconio in Asia Minore e discepola di San Paolo.
Di un edificio di epoca Longobarda e Carolingia (VI-IX) si hanno solo notizie leggendarie e piuttosto tardive.
1117
Nei documenti del X e XI secolo si parla dell’esistenza di una Pieve (chiesa battesimale), retta da un Capitolo di canonici con a capo l’arciprete.
Dopo un terremoto avvenuto il 3 gennaio, la chiesa esistente fu ricostruita da Enrico il Nero, duca di Baviera, fino a diventare, nel 1489, un edificio romanico a cinque navate.
Tra il 1583 e il 1592, l’arciprete Francesco Antonio Fracanzani (1540-1610), cambiò l’orientamento dell’edificio, ricostruendo la facciata ad oriente, verso il nuovo centro della Città.
I lavori furono eseguiti in pietra e marmi secondo il disegno dell’architetto Vincenzo Scamozzi (1552-1616).

Un terremoto avvenuto il 15 aprile 1688 mise in pericolo la statica della costruzione medievale. L’arciprete abate Marco Marchetti (1638-1708) e i canonici del Duomo, d’accordo con la Magnifica Comunità, i Cittadini e i Mercanti di Este, ne decisero la totale ricostruzione.
ARCHITETTO ANTONIO GASPARI
L’architetto Antonio Gaspari (1656-1723) è nato e vissuto a Venezia, dove nel 1681 collabora nei lavori di rifinitura della Basilica della Salute.
Il Gaspari fu impegnato a Este per 18 anni (1688-1705) per la realizzazione del Duomo, la costruzione della Chiesa della Salute e di Palazzo Ca’ Pesaro, oggi sede dell’Istituto Salesiano Manfredini.
A Este il Gaspari ha potuto realizzare con libertà le sue idee fino a lasciare nel Duomo di Santa Tecla, un edificio sacro, unico nel suo genere, il suo capolavoro.

Bio
Graduated in Languages and Literature from the University of Padua, I started working as sales export assistant in a company dealing with pneumatic components for automotive. That experience gave me the opportunity of developing technical terminology and improving my translation skills as well. It was also the start of a practical approach after years of theory and the confirmation of my interest and passion for languages and translation. For my first degree dissertation, I wrote something about literary translation (from Italian to Spanish, particularly focusing on several modalities of translating Tuscan dialect words and expressions to Spanish). And even my master's degree disseration was about translation, that time technical translation of pneumatic valves and cylinders, focusing on multilingual terminology. Nowadays I've been working as a teacher of English for 3 years, but I keep on working as a translator, and now I would like to improve my skills and make new customers.
