Portuguese to English: Cost-benefit investigation towards the use of asphalt pavement and Portland Cement Concrete, both budgeted using SICRO General field: Science Detailed field: Construction / Civil Engineering
Translation - English Recently there has been an increase in asphalt materials price that
has raised doubts over the feasibility of using Asphalt Concrete
pavements in Brazil. Therefore, there is a constant need to study and compare other pavement structures to acquire updated cost data and investigate the economic viability of each one. This paper aims to analyze and correlate budgeting results using SICRO analysis among two paving structures: pavements in Asphalt Concrete and Portland Cement Concrete. The FlexPaveTM software for asphalt pavement was used to dimension the structures, considering the fatigue failure criterion for increased levels of traffic requests. For the CPP pavements, São Paulo's Prefecture dimension technique was used. Conventional 50/70 binders and polymer-modified binders were used on the asphalt mixtures. The findings indicate that the economic viability relies solely on the applied traffic level. However, when evaluating the costs per km by the pavement request number, the structural polymer-modified asphalt alternative resulted in a better price at all traffic levels, revealing 20% cheaper than CCP pavements.
