Bio

Hi! My name is Astry Valdovino, and I am 27 years old. I am originally from Chile, and I recently graduated from the University of Tarapacá as an English-Spanish translator with the highest distinction. Along with my degree as a translator, I also obtained a Bachelor's degree in English.

Throughout my studies, I gained valuable hands-on experience translating literary, technical, and health-related texts, utilizing advanced CAT tools such as MemoQ, Smart Cat, MateCat, and Wordfast Anywhere. My academic journey culminated in a thesis focused on video game localization and transcreation, reflecting my deep interest in this area. I have already made a mark in the field with a published translation through IDEGYS, specializing in economics, management, and health. As a native Spanish speaker with a C1 level in both English-Spanish and Spanish-English translation, I am eager to collaborate on diverse projects, ensuring accurate and nuanced translations that resonate with their intended audience.

To tell you a bit about myself, my interests range from classics such as Edgar Allan Poe and Robert Louis Stevenson to modern literature such as Marissa Meyer and Chris Whitaker. I'm very interested in mystery and fiction books but also in graphic novels and comics.

Additionally, I am interested in the translation of interactive material and design, which led me to do my thesis on video games and how character translation can lead to a branch of translation that is more creatively open: transcreation.

I am also passionate about subtitling and interpreting videos or audio. I enjoy the challenge of accurately translating spoken words while maintaining the original tone and intent, and I have experience with subtitling software and interpretation techniques.

I look forward to applying my skills and passion for languages to new and exciting projects, contributing to making content accessible and enjoyable for a diverse audience. Thank you for considering my profile, and I am excited about the possibility of collaborating with you!
