The Australian Constitution
Australian system of government is a complex system where the key institutions combine elements of both the British and United States of America traditions and models of government:
British system of governance with the House of Representatives;
American practice with a federal senate
The Australian Constitution
The Australian Constitution contains the main features of Australia’s system of government.
The distribution of powers between the States and the Commonwealth
A Governor-General represents the Queen of England
Three Arms of Government
The legislature (Parliament – the Senate and the House of Representatives);
The executive (Ministers and the Public Services); and
The judiciary (system of courts of law).
It is compulsory for all Australians over the age of 18 to vote in State and Federal elections
The House of Representatives
The party or coalition of parties that holds a majority of seats.
The House has 150 members, each of whom represent an electoral division.
Each member is elected for three years.
To become law, bills must be passed by both the House of Representatives and the Senate. The majority of bills are introduced in the House of Representatives.
The Senate
The Senate is democratically elected and possesses constitutional powers nearly the equal of the House of Representatives.
It is not necessary for the majority party in the House of Representatives to hold a majority of the seats in the Senate to form government.
The Senate may force the government to account for its actions by withholding finance from it.
Local Government
Local government is not recognised in the Australian Constitution.
(A referendum in 1988 which sought to provide for constitutional recognition of Local Government, was rejected by the Australian people).
Local Government is an arm of the State.
Local governments derive their powers solely from State legislation and most of these powers are contained in a Local Government Act in each State.
Local government bodies are democratically elected.
Local government is multi-functional and created to service local needs.
Local government has the power to initiate legislation (by-laws) and to levy property taxes (rates).
Consultation has become a key policy and process term for most local governments.
Democratically elected representative local government bodies are responsible for providing good governance to the constituents and the power of the representatives to make the final decision on matters of civic governance is the cornerstone of representative democracy. Consultation is therefore an important link.

I also translate a book of 'World Philosophy' by Ninian Smart by Routledge (London & New York) into Indonesian for Bentang Publisher (Jogyakarta).
(May 1999 - March 2001) Translated a big project of technical training and tobacco processing machine manuals of a national major cigarette company situated in Surabaya, East Java. Most of them deal with machine maintenance and trouble shooting, work safety, machine specification, and operating system. For this project, I responsible to translate ten (10) books of machine manuals into Indonesian.
(January 1998 - May 1999) Translated Technical Manuals of National Power Plant Company (PLN). This was a project outsourced by IKIP Malang Publisher (East Java). A teamwork was needed to finish the big project since we responsible to translate, edit/proofread, and print them into books to be a training resource of PLN employees held in Jakarta.
