English to Portuguese: Megan's School Exams - A Sample of the First Chapter General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Poetry & Literature
Source text - English First Chapter - The Pep Talk
Still, time ticked on, so she patted Grrr, who was lying beside her as ever, got up, showered, put on her school uniform and went downstairs to greet her parents and have breakfast.
“Good morning, how are you?” she said to anybody who was listening. Her father was reading the paper and her mother was frying something in the kitchen.
“Good morning, darling,” said her father, lowering the paper for a moment.
“Morning, Megan, here’s your breakfast. Did you sleep well?” asked her mother as she put two plates down, one for Megan and one for herself.
“Yes, thanks. And you?”
“Oh, like tops, as always. Your Dad and I always just fall fast asleep, as soon as our heads hit the pillow. You know what they say: ‘No sleep for the wicked!’ and that is not us, is it, Robert?... Robert!...”
“What’s that, my dear?”
“I said ‘No sleep for the wicked is there?’ and that is not us.”
“No, of course not, that is not us. Why, who can’t sleep now?”
“I'm not talking about anyone in particular, Robert, it was just a general observation.”
Translation - Portuguese Primeiro Capítulo - A Conversa Inspiradora
– Ah, entendo, querida, sim, bem lembrado.
English to Portuguese: Business Plan Sample General field: Bus/Financial Detailed field: Finance (general)
Source text - English Mr Smith is confident that this relationship is very strong but as a safeguard the company is also looking at other suppliers in the Far East who have similar products and who would be cheaper to buy from. The technology is improving all the time and so other suppliers will very soon be available. The units are quite small and compact making import, transport and fitting quite straight forward.
The purpose of the company has always been to supply and fit fuel monitoring equipment to commercial vehicles. The equipment sends back data to the company’s server which produces reports on the driving and fuel efficiency of each vehicle. The ultimate aim is to save the customer money by cutting their fuel costs.
The company operates from rented offices in a West Midlands Business Park. There are currently two other members of employed staff, however this is expected to increase by at least one with the new order book.
Translation - Portuguese O sr.
English to Portuguese: The Dead by James Joyce - Sample General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Poetry & Literature
Source text - English Lily, the caretaker's daughter, was literally run off her feet. Hardly had she brought one gentleman into the
little pantry behind the office on the ground floor and helped him off with his overcoat than the wheezy
hall-door bell clanged again and she had to scamper along the bare hallway to let in another guest. It was
well for her she had not to attend to the ladies also. But Miss Kate and Miss Julia had thought of that
and had converted the bathroom upstairs into a ladies' dressing-room. Miss Kate and Miss Julia were there,
gossiping and laughing and fussing, walking after each other to the head of the stairs,
peering down over the banisters and calling down to Lily to ask her who had come.
This segment is a free sample from The Dead, by James Joyce
Translation - Portuguese Lily, a filha do zelador, estava muito ocupada. Kate e a srta.

I'm a native Brazilian Portuguese speaker and I translate financial and literary documents from English into Brazilian Portuguese.
My main goal in literary documents is to translate the exact content with the unique style of the author, from where beautiful are born and preserved. Personally, I've always read literature and really like the process of translating not only the story but also the aesthetic feeling. Recently I've translated a 11,000 words fiction book published by TekTime.
Meanwhile, in Finance the most crucial aspect for me is the terminology. All the content of a balance sheet, financial statement, or business plan can be misunderstood if the terminology is not correctly translated. I believe I can translate financial documents because I have a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, which I got in 2023.
