From someone who uses language, right, to leave nothing African behind, hail and well met. The name is Nosihle Nontuthuzelo Luvuno, and I come from the KwaZulu Natal province in Harding KwaMachi - a place where cows roam freely and Wi-Fi does NOT.
I have to say that I grew up in a globe of languages, before I even got to understand rules of grammar, I first was exposed to the rhythm of words, in siSwati, in Xhosa, in seSotho, in English, in isiZulu, and was even teased in Afrikaans.
So, I would accentuate that language for me is not in my brain, it is in my bones, it is something ancestral. And it is through such a bedrock that I have got able to get far, or rather in places far away from my abode. My journey commenced back in 2019, as I have been a part of movements that say let human knowledge meet machine precision. And having been a part of that, I have not ONLY been translating language, I have been translating feelings- I have been ensuring that there is nothing that is lost, in between cultures, in between time, in between voices, and MOST importantly, in between screens.
And it is through such a realization that came to me as Nosihle Nontuthuzelo Luvuno that language is NOT just technical, it is emotional and if it happens that at any given point during that process we lose its emotional honesty, it would mean that we have, or we would have rather lost everything.
From the 20th of January 2025 to the 03rd of July 2025, I have had a pleasure of working as a Language Assistant for the African Next Voices Project at Way With Words Company, and being a detail-oriented individual with experience in quality control, I have evaluated transcripts generated by Automatic Speech Recognition and proofed by proofreaders, ensuring accuracy and precision.
My work with Way With Words and African Next Voices has honed my skills in language-related projects, including voice recording, transcription, prompt creation, administration, and linguistic evaluation. During my tenure, I assisted my team by working extra hours to meet a tight deadline, reviewing and editing transcripts for correctness, and providing feedback to team members. My efforts helped ensure timely delivery of high-quality content, and client was satisfied with the final product. Naturally, meeting tight deadlines is my second nature!
