MA in Modern and Medieval Languages (Cambridge)
I have the Institute of Linguists' (UK) Diploma in Translation from German into English with the following grades:
Paper 1 - General Translation with Annotations - Merit
Paper 2 - Literature - Distinction
Paper 3 - Humanities - Distinction, also Paper 3 Social Sciences - Pass

I began my career as a translator by doing legal translations -divorce settlements etc. - for a close family member who is a solicitor. Based on my own training as a psychiatric nurse I also specialise in psychology and medical texts, including product descriptions for pharmaceutical products (SPC's and PIL's), clinical trials reports, and social sciences texts. I have translated many articles and newsletters on mental health issues and psychological assessments etc.

Working for various translation agencies I have also been asked to do do a lot basic commercial and legal work, including contracts, marketing material for IT and other company websites and other publications, including in the fields of tourism and publishing. I have translated academic articles on Ancient Egyptian Literature, the Moravian Church and the letters of Caspar David Friedrich for publication.

After being unable to work much in 2007, 2012 and 2015 because of critical illnesses and bereavements in the family, I was nonetheless the lead translator for the English translation of the Koettermann laboratory furniture and equipment website in 2012. I compiled the glossary for use by other translators but was unable to do all the work myself because I was supporting my sister in her final illness. My sister-in-law became seriously ill immediately afterwards and this further delayed my return to full-time work. She too sadly passed away in December 2015. I am therefore still rebuilding my network of contacts in 2017. Since 2013 I have mostly translated pharmaceutical, chromatography, tourism and general business texts.

In October - November 2017 I
translated half of Anton Mosimann’s autobiography Life is a Circus. He wanted
two translators to do it for the sake of speed. A third translator did the
short passages in Swiss German. I am currently translating a German PhD thesis
on the influence of the haiku on modern English and American literature.

I have also translated a lot
of marketing materials for a German luxury goods retailer.

 I currently work with
Microsoft Office 2010 and SDL Trados Studio 2019.
