English to Spanish: Inorganic constituents from samples of a domed and lacustrine peat, Sumatra, Indonesia
Source text - English Two peat cores and one substrate core were collected from the Siak Kanan domed
peat deposit in Rum Province, eastern Sumatra, Indonesia. The peat cores consisted of a 9.5-m core from the subaerial part of the domed peat and a 0.51-m core from the bottom of a lake located within the dome. Approximately 1.0 m of substrate material was
obtained from a core from the bottom of the lake adjacent to the lacustrine peat core.
Samples from selected intervals from the peat cores and from the underlying mineral
substrate were low-temperature ashed and examined using light-optical, cathodoluminescent, and scanning electron microscopy, as well as by energy-dispersive Xray analysis to chemically characterize the inorganic constituents. In addition, some of
the ashed samples were analyzed by inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission
spectroscopy and Fourier-transform infra-red spectrometry techniques.
Translation - Spanish Se extrajeron dos testigos de turba y un testigo de sustrato en Siak Kanan, un yacimiento de turba alta, en la provincia de Riau, al oriente de Sumatra, Indonesia. Los testigos de turba estaban formados por un testigo de 9,5 m de la porción subaérea de la turba alta y un testigo de 0,51 m del fondo de un lago que se encuentra dentro de la parte alta de la turba. Aproximadamente 1 m de material de sustrato se obtuvo de un testigo del fondo del lago contiguo al testigo de turba lacustre. Source text - French Depuis une quinzaine d'années, les programmes d'éducation appelés «bilingues» et, plus récem¬ment, «interculturels», et destinés aux populations indiennes d'Amérique du Sud, se sont multipliés. En même temps, les acteurs dans ce domaine se sont diversifiés, et l'Instituto Lingüístico de Verano (ILV), une organisation de missionnaires protestants nord-américains, qui avait initié ce type dé pro¬gramme sur le continent dès les années 50, a perdu sa position de monopole. Des gouvernements nationaux, l'Eglise catholique, des universités, des organisations non-gouvernementales et des asso-ciations ou fédérations indigènes ont depuis lors pris des initiatives dans ce domaine qui, dans l'esprit de tous, signifie un enjeu politique dans la mesure où il est un facteur déterminant de l'avenir des peuples indigènes dans chaque pays.
Translation - Spanish Desde hace quince años, los programas de educación llamados “bilingües” y, más recientemente, “interculturales”, destinados a las poblaciones indígenas de Suramérica, se han multiplicado. Al mismo tiempo, los actores en este campo se han diversificado, y el Instituto Lingüístico de Verano (ILV), una organización de misioneros protestantes norteamericanos, precursora de este tipo de programas en el continente desde los años cincuenta, ha perdido su posición de monopolio. Desde entonces, gobiernos nacionales, la Iglesia Católica, universidades, organizaciones no gubernamentales y asociaciones o federaciones indígenas han tomado la iniciativa en este campo que, para todos, significa un desafío político, pues es un factor determinante para el futuro de los pueblos indígenas en cada país.
Spanish to English: FRACTURAS DIAFISARIAS DEL FÉMUR EN NIÑOS ENTRE 5 Y 12 AÑOS DE EDAD, TRATADAS CON CLAVOS FLEXIBLES INTRAMEDULARES DE ACERO EN EL HUSVP.
Source text - Spanish El propósito de este estudio es mostrar nuestra experiencia con clavos flexibles de acero en el tratamiento de las fracturas diafisarias del fémur en niños entre 5 y 12 años y observar si el material de los clavos altera los resultados. Se hizo un estudio prospectivo tipo serie de casos evaluando los pacientes intervenidos en el HUSVP, y que hubieran completado un seguimiento mínimo de 24 meses. Se obtuvieron 48 pacientes con un promedio de edad de 8.6 años. El tipo de fractura según la clasificación de la AO más frecuente fue 32A3.2 (61%). El seguimiento promedio fue de 43 meses. Se observaron 6 casos de discrepancia de longitud clínica, dos casos de sobrecrecimiento y cuatro casos de acortamiento, dos mal uniones en valgo, sin que estas alteraciones repercutieran en la función del niño. La principal fortaleza de este reporte radica en su seguimiento ya que nos muestra que, a dos años, los resultados con clavos de acero son tan buenos como los reportados con clavos de titanio con seguimientos más cortos. Estos resultados son relevantes para un medio como el nuestro donde los costos suelen ser prohibitivos.
Translation - English The purpose of this study is to show our experience with stainless steel flexible nails in the treatment of femoral shaft fractures in children aged between 5 and 12 years and to observe if the type of material used for nails nail material affects the results. A prospective, descriptive study of a series of cases was performed to evaluate patients treated at the HUSVP who had been followed up for at least 24 months. The study group was composed of 48 patients, with an average age of 8.6 years. According to the AO classification, the most common type of fracture was 32A3.2 (61%). The average follow-up period was 43 months. The alterations observed were six cases of clinical length discrepancy, two cases of overgrowing, four cases of shortening, and two malunions in valgus. These alterations had no repercussion in the children's function. The follow-up is the main strength of this study, as it demonstrated that, two years after surgery, the results with stainless steel nails are as good as those with titanium nails with a shorter follow-up as reported in the literature. Given the high costs of osteosynthesis material in our country, the results of this study provide a less expensive alternative.
