Source text - English In the expressions of experts from numerous countries, about the achievements of the year of microcredit another issue comes to light, which can best be described as an information divide due to time it takes for information to be properly disseminated and assimilated into targeted responses. On one end of the spectrum there are those who have now being involved in microfinance in one capacity or another for well over 30 years and at the other extreme end we have those who are still not aware of it. For those who are now well versed with the good and bad practices the issues have shifted a lot from the initial euphoria about giving the poor man money to buy a fishing rod. The initial limited success that a purely financial approach to microfinance can have has already been discounted innumerable times by the practitioners who are more interested in finding out how else the impact of the access to finance can be maximised in building solid capacities to give a good life and not just create a dependence on a less than perfect system. How to teach the poor man how to fish considering the cultural and social diversities, how to develop efficient markets for him to sell his fish in and realise a good price for his enterprise and how to secure him against the risks that going to sea everyday involves are some of the questions, the answer to which can seriously enhance the impact of microfinance and make it a powerful agent in the fight against poverty.
Translation - Spanish En la opinión de expertos de varios países acerca de los logros del año de microcrédito, destaca otra cuestión que bien puede describirse como una brecha de información, a causa del tiempo que se necesita para que la información se difunda adecuadamente, se asimile y genere respuestas dirigidas a un objetivo. En un lado del espectro se encuentran aquellos que han estado relacionados con las microfinanzas de una u otra forma por más de treinta años, y en el otro extremo, aquellos que aún no saben de su existencia. Para aquellos que ahora son expertos y saben qué prácticas son efectivas y cuáles no, los problemas han cambiado mucho desde la euforia inicial de darle dinero al pobre para que pueda comprarse una caña de pescar. Los profesionales de las microfinanzas ya han descartado infinidad de veces el limitado éxito inicial que resulta de un enfoque de las microfinanzas puramente financiero, y están más interesados en descubrir cómo maximizar el impacto del acceso al financiamiento para fortalecer la capacidad de crear una vida mejor y no solo crear dependencia en un sistema imperfecto. Cómo enseñarle al pobre a pescar considerando las diversidades culturales y sociales, cómo desarrollar mercados eficientes que le permitan vender su pescado y obtener un buen precio por su trabajo y cómo asegurarlo contra los riesgos que implica salir al mar cada día, son algunas de las interrogantes, cuya solución aumentaría considerablemente el impacto de las microfinanzas y las constituiría en un agente eficaz en la lucha contra la pobreza.
