Born to British parents in mostly anglophone Ontario, Canada, I attended school in the French immersion system and so grew up in two languages. Work opportunities and personal experience kept French and English in my life, and other languages (Irish Gaelic, Spanish, Japanese and Breton) eventually joined them. Although my University studies were in linguistics and social anthropology, I did not choose to pursue a career in those fields and later attended two colleges of art and design where I studied metalwork and sculpture. I have also worked extensively in nurseries and so have developed a strong interest in and expertise around horticulture.
Language and linguistics, the humanities, literature, art and craft and nature are my main areas of interest and expertise, and working in translation is a natural extension of both my professional and personal experience.
