Hungarian to English: Information Society
Source text - Hungarian Az információs társadalomban a kommunikációs technológia kevesek kiváltságából közkinccsé válik.
Translation - English In the information society, communication technology will cease to be a monopoly of a small minority and will become a public asset. Broadband infrastructures are covering ever more towns and households (just like running water in the old days) and, as a result of the installation of public access points (“public wells”), are becoming available to everyone. This enables the building of continuously expanding networks, which will change such fundamental everyday activities as shopping, entertainment, traffic, the exercising of democratic and freedom rights, administration, work or education.
Very importantly, the most dynamic growth within Hungary’s Internet market has been experienced in broadband accesses: the number of broadband subscriptions tripled both in 2002 and in 2003. As a result of this market dynamism, the proportion of broadband subscriptions to all Internet subscriptions has by now reached 30 percent, which is outstanding even in EU comparison. The increase in the demand for broadband services may play a leading role in reducing Hungary’s backwardness in Internet usage and Internet penetration and may help the country reach the EU average in this area by 2006.

Bio
My name is Peter Petri, I am a native speaker of Hungarian and have worked as a freelance translator and interpreter between English and Hungarian for well over a decade.
I undertake projects in a variety of fields including telecommunications, the oil industry, regional and healthcare development projects, law and, sometimes, literature.
I studied at the University of Maryland (US) before starting my higher education in Hungary, where I obtained an MA in English as a foreign language.
Later I took the translators' qualifying exam in Budapest with an 'excellent' grade.
Besides studying English and Hungarian literature/grammar, I also took a 2-year course on foreign trade (international treaties, transportation, finance, law and several other subjects covered).
Some of Roald Dahl's "Tales of the Unexpected" have been published in Hungary in my translation.
I am based in Szeged (Hungary) but can also make myself available in other places for work.
On request, I can send letters of recommendation from previous partners to potential future clients.
