One of my greatest passions is education. I teach English as a second Language on a volunteer basis, and give extra help sessions to children from underprivilaged families. These children/teens were struggling with their English courses in school, but their parents could not afford the extra cost of private lessons. I helped these students improve their grades and advance to the next acedemic level. I have also conducted small classes teaching English to very young children using songs and games. These courses were designed to show children that learning a new language can also be fun. They focussed on vacabulary acquisition (the corner stone of good language skills) and grammar was, for the most part, only minimally present. The goal was to illiminate some of the fears and prejudices children have about tackling a new language.
Physical fitness also plays a large role in my life. If the body is not fit, how can the mind be? With so many hours spent in front of the computer screen, physical activity is a must. I enjoy weight training and kick-boxing as well as various types of cardio vascular activity. I also love hiking in the mountains. Being able to get back to nature and enjoying the outdoors helps me bring new energy to my work.
