As características físicas de uma área podem determinar o tipo de ocupação e as atividades a serem desenvolvidas. Ao se estudar a temática do turismo, principalmente o turismo em espaço rural, a paisagem torna-se um elemento de fundamental importância, como atrativo para a atividade turística. Assim, devido a grande importância que a paisagem assume para o planejamento rural, principalmente para o desenvolvimento do turismo, este estudo tem por objetivo, através do estudo da paisagem, identificar as potencialidades de Silveira Martins, RS para o desenvolvimento do turismo em área rural. O estudo possui um caráter qualitativo/descritivo, buscando analisar os recursos naturais como elementos de atração turística. Assim, a pesquisa deu-se através das fases de revisão bibliográfica e trabalho de campo, com a avaliação visual da paisagem. A partir do estudo pode-se destacar que Silveira Martins é um município rico em belezas naturais, representando um grande potencial turístico, principalmente no que tange o turismo na natureza. Devido a suas características físicas, com declividades acentuadas, o Município apresenta uma paisagem muito peculiar, com morros e planícies. Outra característica marcante no município é a presença de balneários e espaços destinados à visitação. Desta forma, percebe-se que a análise da paisagem é um ponto fundamental para o planejamento de áreas rurais, principalmente ao se incluir o turismo rural como um dos pontos a ser desenvolvido. Deste modo, município de Silveira Martins possui grandes potencialidades para o desenvolvimento do turismo em área rural, devido as suas características físicas e sócio-culturais que fazem de sua paisagem um grande atrativo para o turismo, principalmente no que tange o turismo voltado para a natureza devido à geomorfologia.

Translation - English Abstract
The physical characteristics of an area can determine the occupation type and the activities to be developed. Studying the tourism issue, specially the tourism in rural locations, the landscape becomes an element of fundamental importance, as an attractive factor for the tourist activity. This study has as objective the study of the landscape to identify Silveira Martins/RS potentialities, for the development of the tourism in rural area due to the great importance which the landscape represents in the rural planning, mainly for the development of the tourism. The study is of a qualitative/descriptive type, intending to analyze the natural resources as elements of tourist attraction. Therefore, the research was accomplished throughout the bibliographical revision and the visual assessment of the landscape. According to that study it can be emphasized that Silveira Martins is a prosperous town in relation to its natural beauties, representing a great tourist potential, mainly in which concerns the tourism in the nature. Due to their physical characteristics, with accentuated steepness, the Municipal district presents a very peculiar landscape, with hills and plains. Another outstanding characteristic in the municipal district is the presence of spas and spaces destined to the visitation. This way, it is noticed that the analysis of the landscape is a fundamental feature for the planning of rural areas, mainly because the rural tourism is included as one feature to be developed. Therefore, the town of Silveira Martins has great potentialities for the development of the tourism in the rural area due their physical and social-cultural characteristics which make its landscape a great attraction for the tourism, mainly concerning the ecotourism due to its geomorphology.

Graduated in Portuguese/English Language Course at UFSM in 2007, 3 years translating academic papers and abstracts from several areas (engineering, education, health, computer science, History, Geography, Social sciences), I am currently studying in order to achieve a Special Degree Course in Translation Studies.
