INDONESIAN: 'Colloquialisms Vs. Formal Language'
Informal Indonesian language (often known as 'Bahasa Gaul') is the form of language predominantly spoken in urban areas and also serves as the language medium for modern Indonesian film, popular magazines, song lyrics and many television programs. Although 'Bahasa Gaul' is technically only a manipulated form of Bahasa Indonesia, the fact that it varies significantly from standard Indonesian has caused many a headache among some translators/ editors. However, after gaining a thorough understanding and fluency in this form of Indonesian, I now specialize in texts and subtitling work featuring 'Bahasa Gaul' or language deviating from Standard Bahasa Indonesia.
