English to French: Excerpt from a book about e-entrepreneurs General field: Bus/Financial Detailed field: Internet, e-Commerce
Source text - English A common misconception is that a good-looking website will, on its own account, attract Internet “traffic” (people) relevant to the content of the website.
In fact, it is extremely difficult to make any single website stand out of the Internet. This is not surprising, given the sheer size of the Internet. No one actually knows quite how large it is – but in 2007 it was estimated that the Internet contained some 108 million websites and around 19 billion web pages. Meanwhile, in 2008 it was estimated there were some one trillion URLs in existence. The Internet is, therefore, vast (almost beyond imagination) and highly competitive – and expanding daily…
Certainly, an individual website (even a spectacularly good-looking one!) can be as insignificant –and as hard to find – as a particular grain of sand on a beach. Indeed, trying to attract commercially viable traffic (potential buyers) to your website is far from easy, as it requires the constant application of a whole range of marketing tools. All of these tools need to be used if an effective funnel is to be created and enable a website to make money.
