Bio
My name is Belen Iglesias-Arbor. I am a Spanish translator-proofreader and interpreter with an MSc in Translation and Technology (English and Spanish) from Heriot-Watt University.

I also hold a MA Hons. degree in Translation and Interpreting (English, French and Spanish) from the University of Granada (Spain).

Additionally, I am a sworn translator appointed by the by the Language Interpretation Office of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation on the 4th of October, 2007 with File No.: 4830/lic. to translate official documents (such as academic transcripts, CVs, Criminal Record Checks, amongst many others) from English into Spanish and vice versa.

The main source languages I translate from are English and French. In addition, I am a native speaker of Galician, I am proficient in Portuguese and I have an upper intermediate knowledge of Modern Greek, from which I started translating during my time as a trainee at the EP. My main target language is Spanish, but I also translate into Galician and I am comfortable translating into English.

My fields of expertise are Scientific-Technical Translation and Sworn, Legal-Economic-Administrative Translation both from Spanish into English and viceversa.

I translate general, tourism, politics and current affairs texts from English and French into Spanish and vice versa.

I proofread and correct documents written in or translated into Spanish, Galician and, occasionally, English.

I have experience translating and proofreading documents and other written materials in a wide range of domains and for several sectors, such as: scientific-technical texts (e.g., user's guides, safety manuals, operating instructions, catalogues, journal articles) for the engineering, wind and solar energy, telecommunications, hardware and software, machinery, construction and automotive industries; pharmaceutical-medical and sanitation texts (e.g., medicine directions for use, patient information leaflets, biotechnology reference manuals, datasheets catalogues) for the chemical, pharmaceutical and sanitation industries; commercial-financial-economic texts (e.g., letters, leaflets, investment information brochures, catalogues) for the banking and financial sectors; legal documents (e.g., contracts, agreements, certificates, licenses, statements); institutional documents, notably EU-related, including information on EC social initiatives and mainly EP documents (e.g., draft agendas, agendas, minutes, oral and written questions, letters, notices to members -petitions and reasoned opinions-, draft opinions, opinions, draft reports, motions for resolutions, written declarations, working documents, draft recommendations, amendments); didactic and educational literature (e.g., manuals for long distance courses, study books, guidance books and workbooks for teenagers, children’s storybooks) for the publishing industry; tourist literature (e.g., guides, brochures, hotel surveys) and general texts (e.g., advertisements, notices).

Some of the most important and large translation projects that I have worked on have been: the translation and proofreading from English into Spanish of a software license agreement for a Software development company, a release agreement for an airline, a sales representative agreement for an energy company and the corporate website for a financial services company; the translation from English into Spanish of a working document on the Black Sea fisheries (http://www.europarl.europa.eu/meetdocs/2009_2014/documents/pech/dt/852/852392/852392es.pdf ) which was presented by a member of the European Parliament, the translation from English and French into Spanish of several petitions to the European Parliament on mining, water pollution, building, etc.; the proofreading of a biotechnology reference book for pharmaceutical companies in Lyon (France) translated from English into French by a group of 5 translators; the translation and proofreading from English into Spanish of three articles on tunnel grouting engineering commissioned by a group of local residents' associations in Ourense (Spain) and the translation and proofreading from Spanish into English of a an article on Galician-Portuguese medieval poetry written by a lecturer at the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain) to be published in an American online comparative literature journal.

My strengths are my strong ethics and constant willingness to continue learning new skills and improving the existing ones by working hard and striving to always achieve top accuracy, quality and professionalism and keep delivering within schedule.
