SIDE-TO-SIDE STRICTUREPLASTY FOR CROHN'S DISEASE
Preserving Bowel and Quality of Life in Crohn's Disease
The recurrent nature of Crohn's makes the preservation of bowel a critical advantage to patients suffering from the disease. Stricturoplasty techniques, which alleviate obstructive symptoms without the need for intestinal resection, have been an important surgical innovation for treatment of Crohn's since they were first developed 25 years ago. But until Dr. Michelassi developed SSIS, strictureplasty was limited to small bowel strictures no longer than 15 cm, and of little help to the many Crohn's patients whose disease is more extensive. Unlike the initial stricturoplasty techniques, Dr. Michelassi's SSIS is well suited to lengthy strictures in the small bowel.
The procedure has quickly been adopted by surgeons at centers of excellence for the surgical treatment of Crohn's disease around the world.

I started my translation career as a freelance translator during college years. In the college, education language was English and in 2005, a professor of me, stating that she noticed my writing skills in English, proposed me to translate a book for her publishing house. I translated two political history books and edited one for her, and then I, who had been dreaming of being a diplomat until then, realized that translation was the job that I enjoyed most. Of course, I did not have an empiric chance of trying diplomacy but I cannot imagine a job that would make me happier. When I obtained my BA degree in Political Science and International Relations, I applied for the graduate program at the same department and thus extended my education for a 2-year MA program. Meanwhile, I went to Italy for 6 months to make research about my MA dissertation on the 19th century Balkan nationalism, where I became sure that not academic studies but dealing with foreign languages is the most attractive to me.
During the college years, I went to a French course for 2.5 years and became an upper-intermediate "francophone". Now my knowledge of French is not as advanced as that of English and I am only able to translate simple texts. Furthermore, during my 6-month stay in Italy, where I had gone with the knowledge of an only word "ciao", I had the chance of learning Italian, albeit in the beginner level.
Now my objective is to improve myself in a second (French) or may be third (Italian) language, and double (or triple) what I achieved through English. Well then, what have I achieved in English?
As I previously mentioned, I translated two political history books into Turkish:
Richard Crampton, The Balkans since the Second World War.
Antony Best, et al. International History of the Twentieth Century.
Besides, I have been working as a freelancer for numerous translation companies, through which I had the chance of providing translation services for a large number of leading companies. (not listed here for privacy concerns. To be provided upon request)
