До появления венчурного капитала в Европе чуть более 15 лет назад, частные предприниматели попросту не имели свободного доступа к источникам финансирования акционерного капитала. С середины 80-х европейские вкладчики стали больше интересоваться возможностями инвестиций в акции, вкладывая меньше средств в традиционные для них активы с фиксированным доходом3.
«Объем венчурных инвестиций в Европе с 1996 по 2000 гг. составил более 91 млрд. евро, из них в высокотехнологичный сектор – более 25 млрд. евро, что составляет 27.5 % от объема инвестиций и более половины от всех проинвестированных предприятий. Ежегодный объем инвестиций в странах ЕЭС со стороны более 500 действующих здесь венчурных фондов достигает 14,5 млрд. евро.

Before venture capital came to Europe, hardly more than 15 years ago, private businessmen simply did not have a free access to financing the share capital. Since mid 80-ties, the European investors began to be more interested in share investments thus financing in a lesser degree the fixed income assets that were traditional for them 3.
“The volume of venture investments in Europe between 1996 and 2000 amounted to more than 91 billion euros, the hi-tech sector accounted for more than 25 billion euros thus making 27.5 % from the total of investments and covering more than 50% of the enterprises financed. The annual volume of investments into the countries of the European Economic Community originating from more than 500 venture funds that were operating in the industry, reached 14.5 billion euros.
