Source text - English Atrial fibrillation is a supraventricular tachyarrhythmia characterized by uncoordinated atrial activation with consequent deterioration of mechanical function. Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common sustained cardiac rhythm disturbance, increasing in prevalence with age. AF is often associated with structural heart disease although a substantial proportion of patients with AF have no detectable heart disease, haemodynamic impairment and thromboembolic events related to AF result in significant morbidity, mortality, and cost.
Translation - Spanish La fibrilación auricular es una taquiarritmia supraventricular caracterizada por la activación auricular no coordinada que conlleva el deterioro de la función mecánica. La fibrilación auricular (FA) es la forma más común de alteración mantenida del ritmo cardiaco, y su prevalencia aumenta con la edad. La FA se asocia frecuentemente con una cardiopatía estructural, aunque un porcentaje elevado de los pacientes con FA no tienen cardiopatías detectables.
