Major changes to immigration detention practices resulted in the release of child asylum-seekers and their families. However, the policy of mandatory detention of asylum-seekers remained unchanged. There were concerns that new counter-terrorism measures could have a negative impact on fundamental human rights.
Translation - Spanish La población indígena siguió constituyendo un porcentaje desproporcionado de la población penitenciaria. Cambios importantes en las prácticas de detención de personas inmigrantes dieron lugar a la excarcelación de niños y niñas solicitantes de asilo y de sus familias. Sin embargo, la política de detención obligatoria de solicitantes de asilo siguió sin cambios. Preocupaba que nuevas medidas antiterroristas pudieran afectar negativamente a derechos humanos fundamentales.
