Source text - English Today´s fast changing and highly competitive international environment makes that "the captive hinterlands" which seaports had in the past, now have to be shared with other competing ports. Port management has to be adapted to those new tendences, which will be reflected in the way to do business.
A successful seaport, either government controlled or privately owned is the one that is market-oriented and which develops a commercial strategy in order to obtain and sustain its market share. This commercial strategy should be supported by the implementation of an overall quality service management.
Port privatisation is not the magic word that automatically leads to a larger market share. The privatisation process however can help to root out ruts and can thus be used as a means for introducing new management ideas and a commercial strategy.
The major concern of each port management is how can it attract more traffic in order to expand the port, employment, etc. in brief increase the prosperity of the region.
Developing a commercial strategy in order to attract trade to the port is in fact part of port marketing; whereas the overall quality service management relies on training, education, attitude (in a word professionlism).

It should be several times as wide, which would make its operation much easier and more economical. I have seen the stone of this quarry as polished plates at -----, and I believe it has a great chance to be marketed as such: polished in lively varietes of colours
The deposit of this quarry is aproximately 700 x 800 metres, which represents a great reserve for many years of intensive extractions. The road of access is in good conditions and there is no problem with water this quarry.

This stone is of very good hardness and has a variation of very pleasant colours. There are possibilities to have it polished giving it a chance to be used as big-surface-tiles and similar, for wall decoration of bigger sizes. Using a jet-flame the production would be greatly improved and much more economical. Also a very small percentage of explosives would then only be needed.
It would be worthwile to make an effort towards exporting, also including additional investment and partnership. There is nothing comparable like this stone on the Canadian market. The operation of such quarries is easy in comparison with other stones.

Usando un jet a llama la producción sería ampliamente mejorada y mucho más económica. También se necesitaría un muy bajo porcentaje de explosivos. Sería valioso hacer un esfuerzo para exportar, incluyendo también una inversión adicional y un socio. No hay nada comparable con esta piedra en el mercado canadiense. Tant a carga com sobre medida como a de sobrepeso podem ser transportadas em contêineres (por exemplo: OPEN TOP, aberto nas laterais, plataformas), desde que:
- O contêiner possa receber a carga;
- O equipamento do terminal (transtêiner, straddle-carrier,etc.) possa manipular o tamanho ou peso extra;
- O navio aceite receber o peso e/o tamanho extra;
-O transporte terrestre possa manusea-lo fisica e legalmente o tamanho e o peso (tanto no local de embarque como no de descarga).

O seu uso é conveniente para c args largas, animais, verduras e frutas, em distancias curtas Ainda que este contêiner permita o acesso da carga através de seus lados ou pela porta, oferece uma proteçao contra o meio ambiente.

Oversize and Overweight Cargoes
There is not enough place in a container under ISO standards for an irregular shape such as an
oversize cargoe, while an overweight cargo is a heavy volume that together with the container will exceed the ISO recommended maximun wight or any other weight lilmit arouse from the local roads or railroads rules.
Eiether oversize or overweight cargoes can be carried on containers (for example: OPEN TOP, laterally opened, platforms) if:
- The container can take the cargo.
- The terminal equipment (transtainer, straddle carrier, etc.) can handle the extra size or weight.
- The ship accepts to take the extra weight or size.
- The carrier´s haulage can physically handle or legally deal with the size and the weight (either at the pier or at the wharf areas).
All the cargo under this characteristics must be fixed to the container to avoid movements during carriage.
Special Containers:
Containers laterally opened are provided with a back wall and an ended door, and removable roofs and sides. The open sides are usually covered by waterproof awnings, which is convinient for short haul shipping cargoes, animals, fruits and vegetables.
Although this container allows the access to the cargo throught its sides or by the door, it offers good protection against the environment. Cargoes not affected by the weather or the ones that need not protection can be carried on container platform types which only have ended walls with lenghwise beams.
The free roof, sides and ended container is frequently named "FRAMEWORK". It is a frame superstructure base. Overside delivery type.

I have been translating, interpreting and teaching for twenty-five years. At first, fully focused in translating and interpreting, and just occasionally teaching. Thirteen of those years as a Government employee, I worked for the Port Authority in Uruguay, a big organization with over two thousand employees, by that time. I dealt with documents related to: Accounting; Finance; International Banks and Organizations Agreements; Quotations and Purchasing; Port Equipment (cranes, tugboats, dredgers, etc.) and Operations (Containers and Terminals, Shipment, Loading and Unloading, etc.) Operatorion´s Manuals (Employees Trainig Center); articles and brochures; faxes, telex and phone calls. Interpreting foreign visitors on business to our Port and International Organizations Representatives.
I was assigned to the Mining and Geology Administration for four years dealing with papers and reports concerning the mining operative area and Law procedures to perform mining activity in Uruguay.
I have taught English at the Uruguayan Public and Private School Systems: Middle-School, Preps and Adult courses. Technical English for Mechanic and Graphic Design students and Business English (Cambridge BEC VANTAGE) for Business Management students. I have also taught IN-COMPANY (Pfizer and Toepfer Int.) and IN-HOUSE.
After retirement from the Government´s activity I worked Freelance for: 1) United Nations/GTZ (Germany) TRAINMAR Project; 2) Graphic Arts Industry, translating manuals about reprographic; 3) Bilingual Secretary for International Labour Office and 4) Import Company related to art craft (fabric painting and Batik).
I lived in the United States and I took the Praxis Series I and II at the Clark Atlanta University to get a license to teach and at the Literacy Volunteers of America/Atlanta the ESL teachers training course. I volunteered at the Catholic Mission of Atlanta "Our Lady of the Americas" teaching English to the Spanish Community.
As a Freelance in the States I worked for 1) the Lutheran Services of Georgia - Resettlement Program assisting Cuban and Colombian expellees; 2) helping members of the Spanish Community to fill out forms and applications (job, rent, car insurance, etc); making phone calls (IRS, Health Care, Police) and escorting them to Hearings to Court (fines, child support) and 3) Chiropractor´s Office.
All those years of working in Uruguay and the United States in such varied areas have provided me with a valued background and contributed to built my knowledge and skills.
I do my best to deliver excellence, while remaining open to clients´suggestions.
