Languages have always been a predominant part of my personal and professional life. I can remember reading many books, comics and texts, thinking, 'when I am older, I will send a REAL translation proposition to that editor'. Now I have other occupations, but am still into translating.
In my studies, translations where one of the core areas, in French, English and Spanish ('LEA Master 2', LEA is 'Langues étrangères appliquées', meaning languages applied to different domains. See the ones in which I specialize and am interested above in this profile).
These last two years I have lead a professional translation career in different Colombian companies. I first worked on the ICOM Colombia Web page construction project. ICOM is the United Nation’s International Council of Museums, which aim is to conserve and share information and objects present in member museums. My task was to collect relevant information concerning the ICOM organisation as a whole and translate it into Spanish for the Colombian page users. (See credentials section to view translated text)
I then worked for a year and a half at International Introductions (latin-wife.com). This American-owned company is an international matchmaking agency in which male clients are mainly North American (some are European, Asian or South American) and female clients Colombian. I held two main positions, the first being English tutoring, and the second one translating. In the last mentioned, my tasks where multiple: two-way written translation of profiles and correspondence (English and Spanish), two-way interpretation for clients (English, Spanish and French sporadically), and written translation of the company’s Web page (English to French). The online version is to be ready at the beginning of 2009.
I also worked on a Web page writing and trilingual translation project for a boutique hotel in Cartagena, Colombia. The texts are online, see credentials section to read.
