I'm a certified translator (equivalent of Bachelor's degree, University of Heidelberg), and studied English, Spanish and German (specialized in the translation of technical texts in the fields of medicine, law and technology). Prior to graduating from Heidelberg University I had obtained a state recognized translator's and consecutive interpreter's qualification from the private language school "Englisches Institut" in Heidelberg, Germany.

Subsequently I worked as a certified translator for various regional courts in Germany, as an interpreter for the Frankfurt Police department and for various private customers, firms and translation agencies.

Later on I also studied social work at the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences, and worked in language-related social work projects. The first project was as an HIV/AIDS counselor for English and Spanish speaking migrants at the department of infectious diseases of the Frankfurt University Hospital (1998 - 2000). It involved liaising with medical staff and social services and communicating disease related information to the patient, assisting them with claims for disability, benefits, etc. The project was discontinued due to lack of funding.

I continued working in the field of HIV/Aids with DED (German Develompment Service) in a project with UNAIDS in Khartoum, Sudan (2001 - 2002) where I was in charge of mapping available services, conducting workshops in cooperation with UN agencies and NGOs. Afterwards I became an HIV/AIDS officer with United Nations Volunteers and was assigned to the United Nations Mission in the Congo where the focus was collaboration with medical services and educating UN staff and the local population about HIV / AIDS (2003 - 2005). A short term assignment with Doctors without Borders (MSF Holland ) for conducting a workshop in DRC followed (2006). Thanks to this long-term collaboration with medical staff, I'm quite familiar with medical terminology and procedures (the language at work was predominantly English, and in DRC also French).

After my return to Germany I worked as a freelance translator and interpreter and taught German and English (fall 2006 - July 2012). In 2012 National Pen LTD in Ireland offered me an interesting position within their German team in the field of B2B sales of promotional items. In 2016 I joined their US team in Tennessee, USA, where I work with French Canadian customers, as well as Spanish and English speaking customers in the same field.

Keywords: Translation of scientific texts and legal documents, interpreting services English & German, specialization in social science, international development and medicine.
