I am an experienced translator specialising in a number of the languages of Central and Eastern Europe. I am a Fellow of the UK Chartered Institute of Linguists.
I am an academic by professional, and teach a wide range of translation-related subjects, including translation memory, machine translation, terminology acquisition and management, localisation and advanced word processing.
I am comfortable working with a wide range of file types: not just Word documents, but the full range of Microsoft Office and OpenOffice formats, plus, for example, HTML and XML. I am also able to generate PDF documents and to edit images.
I have a good knowledge of translation memory systems and I learn new software quickly. I pride myself on being precise and thorough, with a strong sensitivity to clear expression and stylistic nuance. My work is also characterised by the high level of my word processing skills. I work well independently and also understand how to function as part of a team.
Since translation is a part-time activity for me I am not usually able to handle more than 2,000 words per week. |
