Hullo! I'm a part-time freelance translator from German to (British) English. I only started learning German late in life, but by jumping in at the deep end and living in the country, my language skills are of near native proficiency. I grew up in England, Scotland and Ireland and have an eclectic academic background, including one year studying Chemistry and four years of History. In my spare time I have also gathered a lot of experience in IT, Photography and Animal Husbandry.
I have been living in Germany since 2009, and have spent most of that time teaching English at pretty much every level and in every capacity, including private tutoring, one-to-one tuition, night school and in-house business courses. During this time I also did some translation work for a variety of clients, and have now chosen to develop this skill further.
In my current capacities as a freelance translator, I am working with a number of smaller translation bureaus and agencies to improve my skills and gain as much experience as possible. To date, I have had experience in the fields of tourism, legal contracts, letters/applications, poetry/literature, as well as some semi-technical work translating presentations and websites in the IT sector.
At the moment I am preparing to take the Institute of Linguists' Dip Trans exams and am studying Polish in my spare time.
