Translation - English This month I’d like to introduce a very British festival, Bonfire night (also known as Guy Fawkes Night).
Bonfire Night takes place on the 5th of November every year, and is celebrated with bonfires, fireworks and stalls selling sweets. Most towns have their own fireworks displays, as well as a large bonfire. On the 5th of November and the nearest weekend, the sky around towns and cities is full of fireworks. Bonfire Night is only celebrated in the UK and has historical links to the past, although most people forget this in the modern celebration.
In 1605, a man called Guy Fawkes tried to blow up the Houses of Parliament. Fortunately, he was caught and the plot failed. From then on people in the UK have celebrated his failure on the 5th of November. The story of Bonfire Night is remembered by this short rhyme
I am a native English speaker with a BA in French and Japanese, as well as almost 5 years of experience as a freelance translator of French and Japanese to English (UK and US).
I have experience in a wide variety of areas, including but not limited to: legal, finance, technical (software and others), oenology/viticulture, travel/tourism and marketing, along with some literary translation of short stories. In 2014 projects included 25,000 words of marketing and promotional articles for a Swiss magazine, a 4,000 word legal contract and 70,000 words spanning a variety of articles, reviews and blog posts on luxury items, watches and travel for a website.
In 2015 I have just finished a 100,000 word project related to history and architecture, translated several hundred thousand words related to a military project, and also worked on the translation of a French indie game and a title for a well-known Japanese games company.
