@cilian: i agree but would it make a difference to know that these are fittings for water meters heat meters etc. as they can come in all colours, shapes and sizes?

anything else (qualifying it with e.g. polished, matt, brushed...) is IMO taking an unnecessary risk, unless you have a picture

agree MMUlr : I found "high-grade brass" - there are a lot of hits: one of them http://www.appleinternational.com/electrical_fittings.htm (and a lot related to shower sets etc.) //Parts for shower sets are only *one* example for the use of high-grade brass...
