French term

actionneur

French to English Marketing Marketing / Market Research description d'une entreprise
I have a list of attributes mentioned by respondents (in a market research questionnaire) when describing companies. Examples: entreprise d'informatique, entreprise de (télé)communications, banque, etc.

One of these entries is "actionneur". Does this make any sense to you? If not, could it be a typo for something else?

There is no really useful context apart from the above, I'm afraid.

Many thanks in advance,
Endre

Many thanks, Rob. I'm aware of the technical meaning, and if someone can (based on own experience) confirm the metaphorical use you suggest (or a similar interpretation), I'll be very happy.
Julie Barber Oct 18, 2006:
I thought the same as Rob - getting things done - 'proactive' could be appropriate if it is that.....
Rob Grayson Oct 18, 2006:
This is usually a technical term meaning "actuator". I'm wondering if it means that people perceive this company as being one that leads the way, gets things done etc....

active investor

Active investors and investing are (new) terms relating to a highly involved investment strategy. (see investopedia dictionary site in refs. below) I also found a French investor site that uses the term "actionneur" in this sense , but with (their particular?)emphasis on social involvement ("Actionneur=Actionnaire + Acteur")

Actually, to be consistent with the other company descriptions, the translation should be "Active Investments"

or "Active Investing"

2 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Actually, when looking at the verbaitm records it turned out that the respondent had really meant "manufacturer of actuators". Many thanks, Julie, Sharon, Rob and Ian!"

French term (edited): actionneur (description d'une entreprise)

shareholder/actionnaire

If it refers to the respondents and not just to types of companies, it might be a typo for *actionnaire*. For example, if the question is "do you work in: banking, telecommunications" etc then this might somehow be construed to be "are you a shareholder of..." Depends how the question is phrased.
