La fréquence d’étalonnage, calibrage
French to English

Chemistry; Chem Sci/Eng
Relating to safety testing + checks at a chemical production factory. I understand the frequency part! thanks

The word 'calibration' is used in EN for both 'étalonnage' and 'calibrage' in FR, which often leads to this same confusion, hence all the earlier discussions (did you go and look, Julie? I'm sure it would help..)
As I understand it (and I'm sure our FR colleagues will correct me if I'm wrong), 'étalonnage' specifically refers to calibrating against a recognized standard — in other words, for all the readings of X piece of measuring equipment, you will get a graph of list of error values of 'reading vs. actual measurement'. remember that 'étalon' means a 'standard' (cf. 'gold standard', for example)
'calibrage' on the other hand means a somewhat more relaxed for of calibration, which does not involve direct comparison with standards, where you are virtually just adjusting the machine for a certain level of accuracy of the results; in certain fields, we might even refer to this as 'alignment'
'norm testing', as I understand it, means testing a piece of equipment against a given standard (in the other sense, like BS WXYZ or ISO ABCD — and in this case, there is not necessarily an element of 'calibration' about it (though there could be) — more often than not, we might simply measure a series of characteristics under controlled conditions, and record the results, usually with a Pass / Fail criterion to be met.
