unter http://europa.eu.int/comm/translation/en/stygd/enstyle.htm#t... habe ich die Übersetzung "government region" gefunden, bin aber eigentlich der Meinung, dass administrative region (of a federal state) besser paßt, oder?
Und wie ist das amerikanische Äquivalent für den Regierungsbezirkspräsidenten - "president of the regional government"?

For a city we have a \"mayor\' or sometimes a \"public administrator.\"
For a state we have a \"governor.\"

Explanation:
I agree with "Administrative District" as above - the functions of a "Regierungsbezirk" are mainly administrative (police admin., control of pharmaceutical research and manufacturing, property and construction, etc.).
As for the title, I would leave it in German and explain with English in parentheses, and there I would not use president, as that seems too mighty in English for this intermediate position which is also not an elective office as far as I know. Right now I can't think of anything better than "head", as neither "supervisor" nor "director" fit.
"Regierungsbezirkspraesident (head of the administrative district)" serves well, I believe.

Explanation:
Ich wuerde "district" fuer die deutsche administrative Einheit verwenden, der entsprechende amerikanische Begriff ist auf jeden Fall "county", und der Regierungsbezirkspraesident einer county hier an der Ostkueste ist der "county executive". Es gibt jedoch grosse regionale Unterschiede, so sind etwa in New England die Begriffe den britischen naeher.

Chief Executive of the regional government


Explanation:
This is difficult because the US and GE government systems are different. In the US there is no entity between county and state
My experience has beeen that the relationship between Städte and Landkreise is closer to the US town/city to county, so I translate Landkreis as county. In the US "district" is used more to describe a part of a town/city - "The garment district" in NYC, for example. I suggest you translate Regierungsbezirk as "region or regional" and instead of President use "Chief Executive"
