The point here seems to be the office (here differentiated from the editorial committee [Redaktionsausschuss] more than one individual, so I'm not convinced by "editor in chief", although "editors-in-chief", already suggested, might be an option.
Example sentence:

Interested parties should submit their manuscripts to Dr XYZ, the editor-in-chief, in the main editorial office.

Since Chefredaktion is the search term (and not Chefredakteur), this should be it.
Example sentence:

Hello Mark: As far as I know "Chefredakteur" is singular (hence "editor-in-chief") and "Chefredaktion" plural, so after giving more thought I provided the second suggestion above.
Note from asker:
The text also refers to "Chefredakteur" - I am not sure whether the terms are synonymous or whether there is a distinction. I would choose something different from the singular just to be on the safe side
