English term

end-to-end

English to Chinese Tech/Engineering IT (Information Technology) storage
Last year I wrote that "Object storage will be available from the host side in 2007, and to storage devices, including object managers that replace RAID controllers, but not until 2008. This will be the first major change in storage technology {end-to-end} for many decades. This will have impacts on areas such as HSM, write reconstruction and virtualization, just to name a few."

Discussion

clearwater (asker) Dec 29, 2007:
Frank Wang Dec 29, 2007:
很想看看各路英雄怎么翻译“This will be the first major change in storage technology {end-to-end} for many decades.

FYI

Note from asker:

End-to-End – if you are not an IT expert, you can never guess what’s hanging on each end of the network.; since the asker said it’s not “端到端”, caught my curiosity how professional do we need to be to become a good translator (for NOT being an IT expert).

With the given context, it indicated it’s “from HOST to STORAGE DEVICES”, so I think this “END-to-END” means two different (unequal) entities.

Took a quick tutorial from the web, and find

“end-to-end” could mean

1. low quality use v.s. most demanding use, or
2. SAN v.s.

I just want to provide more info for the real expert to figure out the "final answer".
