I guess a practical way to look at it would be that when you get really stressed out and overwhelmed by fear, or other hindering factors, you feel like you've blown it and it's over before it's even really begun but it's too late to turn back

Scusate se mi intrometto, non sono madrelingua inglese, ma dall'inglese traduco abitualmente argomenti di training aziendale (quindi in direzione opposta a questa). Io trovo in questi contesti una resa (in inglese) molto semplice come quella che indico, che rendo abbastanza pedissequamente in italiano: sinceramente all'espressione "già fatto" non avevo mai pensato, ma evidentemente si riferisce ad azioni (progetti o quant'altro) che la persona overconfident ha già intrapreso e concluso...
Valutate voi meglio di me, è solo un suggerimento.

legacy argument (in context)

Legacy software is old software you are stuck with. An idea. In financial translation you often have to follow the legacy of the previous translations even if they are wrong, or write a letter to every analyst who has been reading them for years explaining the change. I call it "legacy translations".
